Innovative Organizational and Capital Structures to Promote Impact Goals

The Lab is providing project leadership, stipends and access to expert advisors to a team of Univ. of Vermont Sustainable Innovation MBA (UVM SI-MBA) students to develop an organizational and capital structure for social (for profit) ventures with strong ties to nonprofit stakeholders.

The project aims to relaunch the TrueBody brand and product line as a new for-profit enterprise, TrueFamily Brands LLC. The new company will carry on the original TrueBody social and environmental missions with the additional mission to provide a reliable and meaningful revenue stream to support local, mission-aligned nonprofits.

The Lab/SI-MBA team will deliver:

  • Organizational strategy to define the legal and operational structure of TrueFamily and its financial relationship with local, mission-aligned nonprofit partner(s)

  • Capital strategy that includes optimal financing partners, structures, outreach plans, etc. to fund the initial launch of TrueFamily

  • Business model canvas, pitch deck, and financial projections for launch

  • Project leadership to deliver the above, plus project management/product development team coordination toward a Minimum Viable Product for initial launch

Project Outcomes

From June 2022-October 2023, six Univ. of Vermont Sustainable Innovation MBA students became entrepreneurs as they learned how to design and launch a values-driven, community-committed startup. They led product development, strategic planning and innovative financial modeling then launched a product that generated donations to child care centers in Burlington, VT. Read more here.
